Details the three month campaign against Black Hawk which was concluding in Illinois. A battle on August 2 resulted in "killing I presume about one hundred, & making fifty or sixty prisoners, besides destroying a large portion of their baggage, & capturing, & killing a number of their horses ..."

Zachary Taylor (1784-1850), the twelfth president of the United States. In 1841, he was appointed to the command of the Sourthern Division of the United States.
